In The Neighborhood: Logan Square
Six miles northwest of downtown Chicago brings you to the Logan Square neighborhood that recently has become one of the city’s most sought-after locales. The neighborhood, boasting grand boulevards and historic homes, strikes a perfect balance of both trendy and family-friendly. We’re highlighting some of the best places to go when exploring this northwest neighborhood.
Located on Milwaukee Avenue, Galerie F is one of the most unique shops in the neighborhood. The gallery space regularly hosts art shows displaying concert posters, fine art prints and street art murals. If you’re looking for an affordable way to fill up your apartment walls or a gift to take home to a loved one, peruse the selection of prints by local and national artists. Even better? They are all affordably priced.
What began as a food truck operation quickly became one of the neighborhood’s most popular culinary haunts. Bang Bang Pie Shop features slices of (you guessed it) pie with an additional full menu of delectable biscuits. Though more known for their dessert menu, the biscuits are not to be missed… especially the biscuit sandwiches. Tip - head there for breakfast for biscuits and gravy piled with eggs and chorizo. You won’t be disappointed.
Swap cruel intentions for Best Intentions at this neighborhood bar. While it’s known as a local “dive”- stop in for a fancier-than-average cocktail in an alluring setting and be sure to check out the bar’s bountiful list of bourbons. In the summer, the rear patio boasts its own outdoor bar and food menu.
Besides a continuously expanding restaurant and bar scene, Logan Square also has many family-travel friendly attractions. The Purple Monkey Playroom is a destination your child won’t soon forget. The play space has plenty of toys to keep kids entertained throughout the day while parents can relax with complimentary coffee or tea and WiFi. Admission is $15 per child and Purple Monkey also offers weekly story time and language classes for kids.
