Many native New Yorkers haven’t even explored all that the city has to offer, but that doesn’t mean that short-term visitors can’t get a good sampling of its culture, entertainment, and culinary highlights. Whether you’re a local or are experiencing New York for just a few days, we’ve got everything you need to know to plan your weekend.

FRIDAY
Kick the weekend off right with dinner and a movie. For a change of pace, watch a favorite flick under the stars—atop the flight deck of the legendary aircraft carrier, the Intrepid. This summer’s lineup includes Top Gun, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Galaxy Quest, Big Hero 6 and more. A special guest will introduce each film, such as Star Trek screenwriter Nicholas Mayer and Top Gun stunt pilot David Baranek.

Afterward, pop by JIMMY, The James New York’s own rooftop bar and lounge with a one of the most spectacular views in New York City: a river-to-river vista looking over Midtown, Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge and beyond. Toast the weekend with a grilled pineapple mojito, spring sorbet Collins, or another of our specialty cocktails.

SATURDAY
Start the day with a trip to Brooklyn for the borough’s Brooklyn Flea, an outdoor market featuring top vendors of furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles and antiques, as well as a tightly curated selection of jewelry, art, and crafts by local artisans and designers. The market operates in Fort Greene on Saturdays; look for Smorgasbord, a huge artisanal food market, in Williamsburg.

Prefer to stick closer to home? There’s plenty of top-quality shopping right in our own backyard of SoHo: Check out these specialty boutiques for unique local wares before heading out for a true New York experience: a night at the theatre. Plan ahead to ensure you reserve tickets to popular current productions such as Hamilton and Waitress, or explore smaller shows.

SUNDAY
Sunday is synonymous with brunch—so why not indulge right at The James New York by making a reservation at David Burke Kitchen? Nosh on plates such as Maine lobster Benedict and braised short-rib and mushroom hash while sipping a classic Bloody Mary or a fruit-filled smoothie. Or, if weather permits, join us for an al fresco lunch at Garden at David Burke, our outdoor eatery.

Finish your weekend with an afternoon visit to one or more of New York’s famed museums. From the Met and the Museum of Natural History to the New Museum and the MoMA—or smaller specialty museums—there’s something here for everyone.

Use The James New York as your base for a fun-filled weekend in the city, where your cultural exploration can continue with our celebrated #artatthejames collection.
