We’re more than a little excited about our new short film in partnership with the David Lynch Foundation, #ANewSunriseOverSunset.  The creative vision of Dazed Media and the film’s director Shaniqwa Jarvis was essential to creating moments of connection, consciousness and community that perfectly encapsulates the ethos of the upcoming James West Hollywood.

We sat down with Shaniqwa to get a behind-the-scenes look at the process of creating #ANewSunriseOverSunset, as well as some of her overall inspirations and life philosophies.

1. How did you get involved on this project?
I was commissioned by Dazed Media to work on this project with The James.

2. What was the most inspiring moment working on the film?
The most inspiring thing for me was being able to collaborate professionally with a diverse group of friends, some I've known for years. It was great to work creatively and harmoniously with everyone and have everyone get along. It made the experience that more special and surreal. I find it can be challenging to work with people you know well, but this project was a great example of how harmonious things can actually be when working with your friends.

3. The themes of the film revolve around connection, community, consciousness and overall enlightenment. What does being enlightened mean to you?
Being enlightened to me means to know and accept your truth, to acknowledge the negative in your live and to live above it.

4. What do you love most about the Los Angeles community?
I don't live in Los Angeles and each time I'm in town my LA community always takes me in, loves and supports me.

5. What do you hope people take away from this film?
Feed your soul. Travel. Always be a beam of light.
