As a part of the ongoing commitment to art and the community that surround us, The James Chicago has collaborated with curator Anna Cerniglia, founder and creative director of Johalla Projects, commissioning Chicago-based artist Alexander Valentine to launch #jamespublicart in Chicago.
The two-piece large-scale installation, Pace & Space, transforms the Rush street Pillar by The Patio into a collage comprised of vibrantly colored patterns, reflective of spring and summer. The artist’s inspiration is drawn from the interior spaces of the hotel, as well as the perceptual noise and language of advertising. Abstract, active and effervescent – often to the point of (planned) pleasant overstimulation.
Guests, passersby, and the local community are invited to join the conversation via social media with hashtag #jamespublicart. We’ll post select photos on JamesPublicArt.com - a home for images inspired by #jamespublicart at The James New York.
To coincide with the James Public Art launch, artist Alexander Valentine has created a limited-edition print inspired by the large-scale artwork created for the program titled “Carry the Zero”. Available for $150, the 15.5” x 18.5” inch print is signed and numbered from an exclusive edition of 50. For purchasing information, please call our Guest Request Team at 312-660-7161.
