DeMarcus Purham grew up on Chicago’s Southeast Side, the son of a single mother often struggling to make ends meet. As a child, DeMarcus started drawing and never stopped. As DeMarcus got older, art became his escape from the hard times. DeMarcus participated in the Gallery 37 Center of the Arts program from 2002 to 2004, and in 2005 he graduated valedictorian from Leo High School and attended the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York City. DeMarcus also collaborated on a “Peace Mural” sponsored by LaSalle Bank. DeMarcus excels in architectural city landscaping. The piece for the James special event space is a panorama of Chicago, a dramatic drawing of the intricacy of a city, produced in white pencil against a black background.
