    Hudson Valley Getaway

For a quick sojourn from New York that offers plenty of history and activities, journey to the Hudson Valley district. Easily accessible via Amtrak, the city of Hudson is known as the “downtown of upstate” with its 50+ antique shops, 300 historic buildings, 10 bed & breakfasts, and many popular restaurants. We’d recommended renting a car for the 120-mile drive to take in the scenic sights, including farm stands, retro diners, and, of course, the river. Before you head out, check out our top places to experience while exploring this charming city.

Eat

An elevated dining experience awaits at Swoon Kitchenbar, one of the few restaurants in the area with a James Beard-nominated chef. The menu focuses on all things “fresh” as the ingredients at Swoon are provided solely by local farms and purveyors. The bar scene makes it one of the most popular spots for locals with its 22 foot-long single wooden truss reclaimed from an old factory and a few tables that make for a lively gathering.

Shop

Looking for a sweet trinket to remember your Hudson Valley adventure by? Check out Mary MacGill on Germantown’s quant Main Street. The store peddles simple, elegant, and handcrafted 14-karat gold jewelry, adorned with semi-precious stones and baroque pearls, along with a curated selection of casual clothing and a rotating inventory of home and art items that make for excellent gifts.

Do

When you’re not browsing over their 10,000 books, you can indulge in craft beer on tap at The Spotty Dog Books & Ale. The bookstore includes a large section of rare reads, including an expanded local selection for those looking to brush up on their Hudson Valley history. Plush couches and chairs can be found to read and relax in and other than craft brew, the full bar features wine, coffee, and snacks.
