Arrival and Witching Hour

Let yourself be enchanted by the allure of New York City in the middle of fall. There is an anticipated chill in the air, and the trees in Central Park are transforming with the season. Check in at The James NoMad, your cozy abode for this spooky getaway. Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, this historic Beaux Arts hotel will be your haven amidst the Halloween excitement and the hustle and bustle of the city.

Unwind and enjoy your beautifully appointed accommodations, or head outside and explore the neighborhood. New York City truly loves Halloween, and many popular destinations and locals decorate their facades for the season, so keep your eyes peeled for pumpkins and scary installations when you’re out and about!

As the sun begins to set on your first day, head back to the James NoMad’s lobby for our spooky Witching Hour. On October 30th and 31st, we will serve up our special Witch’s Brew. This bewitching cocktail will set the mood for the Halloween festivities ahead. Stick around, the highlight of the evening will be the Spell Sachets-Making Class led by Shawn Engel of Witchy Wisdoms. Learn to make your own spell sachets, infusing them with your intentions to weave a spell of positivity over the upcoming year. It will be a unique opportunity to tap into the mystical energy of All Hallows Eve.

Day 2: A Day of Exploration

Before heading out for the day, make sure to fuel for a day of fun frights. Visit our next-door neighbor, Bourke Street Bakery. This Aussie-born bakery serves up classic meat pies, sausage rolls, artisan bread, fresh sandwiches, and specialty coffee. Make sure to grab a sandwich and a PSL for the road. We recommend booking a Ghost Tour of New York City, like Haunted Manhattan. The best way to explore the city is with someone who knows it. That’s why, in each of these tours, a different character will guide you through the eerie history of New York. In the Greenwich Village Tour, for example, a Professor will enlighten you as to why the construction of the Washington Arch was delayed…and what might lie beneath.

The Village Halloween Parade is one of the city’s most spooktacular seasonal events, and it’s coming back this year. Join more than 50,000 zombies, ghouls, witches, monsters, robots, and more spooky friends. Whether you march or watch from the sidelines, don’t miss this iconic Halloween event, which is celebrating 50 years in 2023!

Return to The James NoMad and prepare for a night of mischief with our ‘Stay Spooked’ room package. Sip on a complimentary bottle of red wine as you connect with the supernatural and explore the mysteries of the Tarot, or embark on a thrilling adventure of mystery and solve a crime in your own room with the ‘Death in La-la Land’ mystery board game. To round off a day of creepiness, cozy up with a movie night using the provided projector and a list of spooky films as you enjoy some Mariebelle Halloween Chocolates. Finally, take home a Pumpkin souvenir with our pumpkin decorating kit.

Day 3: Before You Leave, Immersive Halloween

A vampire masquerade is making its debut in New York this fall, and it’s promising to be truly immersive. ‘Dream of Dracula: An Immersive Masquerade Experience’ will recreate the classic Dracula Universe as a brand new vampire theatrical experience. The production will open on October 4th running through November 11th at Musica NYC in Hell’s Kitchen. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in Gothic and Victorian costumes.

For a pleasant experience outside to enjoy the crisp fall air, head out to the New York Botanical Garden for their Fall-O-Ween celebration of all things pumpkin. Officially opening on September 16th, this event includes hundreds of pumpkins and gourds on display, pumpkin carving sessions, and spooky garden nights. Plus, it’s your best opportunity to take a selfie with a scarecrow in the city!
